Some original permanent residence applicants whose complete application has been accepted into one of the eligible programs may be able to apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit to maintain their work permit while the permanent residence application is reviewed. Having an Express Entry profile, receiving an invitation, or simply submitting basic documents is not always sufficient for BOWP.

Eligibility depends on the permanent residence program, processing stage, receipt of Acknowledgment of Receipt, physical presence in Canada, current residency status and specific conditions of the same program. Usually, the applicant must be the main applicant of the case, be present in Canada and have valid status, maintained status or the possibility of qualified restoration. In provincial cases, the presence or absence of employment restrictions in the nomination letter is also important.

Some permanent residence routes do not use a bridging open work permit or have specific rules; Therefore, the exact type of case must be confirmed before proceeding.
