A Humanitarian and Compassionate (H&C) application lets people who do not fit into other immigration programs ask to become permanent residents of Canada because of their exceptional circumstances. The decision is discretionary, so a strong, well-documented submission is essential.

Who is this for?

  • People living in Canada who have built strong ties here and do not qualify under other programs
  • Families where the best interests of a child are directly affected
  • People who would face serious hardship if they had to leave Canada

How we can help

  • Assessing whether an H&C application is the right option for you
  • Documenting your establishment in Canada: work, community, family and ties
  • Presenting the best interests of any children affected
  • Showing the hardship you would face if you had to leave Canada
  • Preparing detailed written submissions and supporting evidence

Good to know: An H&C application does not stop removal on its own, and some restrictions apply, for example after a recent refugee decision. Get advice before you apply.
