Medical Services Plan (MSP) for British Columbia

MSP is the public health insurance plan of British Columbia. Eligibility depends on habitual residence in the province and immigration status. Some work or study permit holders and their family members may be eligible.

Applicant must be an eligible resident of BC and have one of the accepted statuses. The type and validity period of the permit is important. Individuals who are not eligible must have appropriate private coverage until their status is determined.

Professional fees are determined after reviewing the applicant’s circumstances, immigration history, number of family members, the complexity of the matter, and the scope of services required. After the assessment, the services, professional fees, and payment terms will be confirmed in a written retainer agreement.

Government processing fees, biometrics, medical examinations, translations, credential assessments, courier charges, and other third-party costs are separate from professional fees unless the written agreement expressly states otherwise.

• Employment or education letter, if required for eligibility;
• MSP form and documents of name or previous status.
